One of Dayton’s most beloved traditions enters its 32nd year as the Stoddard Avenue Pumpkin Glow returns to the Stoddard Avenue hill behind Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, located at 500 Belmonte Park North in Dayton’s Grafton Hill neighborhood, on October 26 & 27 from 6-10 PM. Organizers encourage the community to not only attend the Glow but also to volunteer in the days leading up to the event to help gut, trace, and carve nearly 1,000 pumpkins. Started in 1984 by Grafton Hill neighbor Judy Chaffin, lovingly known as “The Pumpkin Lady,” the event has grown from a modest display of 30 pumpkins to nearly 1,000 jack-o’-lanterns over the years. Parking will be available at Dayton Art Institute, the Dayton Masonic Center, and throughout the neighborhood. Stoddard Avenue will be blocked off for the event and open to pedestrians, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the display. Food trucks from all over the greater Dayton area will be on-site again this year. We are also thrilled to welcome back the Friends of SICSA, who will have goodies available to benefit the SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center, making this a true community affair. This clinic will cover: How to consistently start the point with serves and returns. Why drops are essential for your game and how to hit them effectively. Winning teams can stay on the court for a maximum of two consecutive games before letting new players take over. 3. Good game! Losing teams should exit the court after the match. 4. Next Up! Men’s Doubles DUPR Ladder League October 26th December 7th (6 Weeks) No League Thanksgiving week! Early Bird pricing ends Friday, October 9th and spots are strictly limited. Once a league fills, you’ll be stuck on the waitlist! Your journey begins on a court grouped with players near your exact current DUPR rating . Each week, you'll play a series of games with rotating partners on your assigned court. Perform well, and you'll climb to higher courts next week; finish lower, and you'll drop down to defend your spot. On Week 1, players are ordered highest to lowest by their official DUPR rating and placed onto corresponding courts (Top Court = highest ratings). Play individual games with everyone on your 5 player court. The top point earners move UP a court for the next session, while the bottom point earners move DOWN a court. League Champion(s) will receive $100 in Club Credit! We will upload all match scores and results to DUPR within 12 hours of each completed league night to ensure your rating is always up to date.
