Art in the City is Downtown Dayton's annual celebration of the incredible collection of visual and performing arts experiences in our city! Dayton has an unbelievable breadth and depth of the arts for a city our size, and downtown is the center of it all. Each year, Art in the City showcases local art and artists of all kinds to highlight and celebrate that artistic variety. New this year! This year, Art in the City will stretch beyond its typical one-day event to celebrate the arts all month long! The celebration will be comprised of three main components. Flite Fest 2026 is heading to Dayton, Ohio, for the largest collaboration in its history. For the first time, Flite Fest will take place alongside the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Lift Challenge, a $6.5 million heavy-lift drone competition that pushes the limits of UAV design, aerospace engineering, and vertical-lift innovation. And it all happens, August 6-9, at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force! Flite Fest, one of the largest family-friendly RC aviation events in the world, bringing together builders, pilots, and STEM enthusiasts, will feature Build Tents, Open Flying, Crazy Builds, RC Air Combat and more on the museum grounds. Now it's combined with one of the most ambitious drone innovation challenges in the world. The DARPA Lift Challenge is a unique aviation competition where teams of engineers, students, and innovators will compete for a share of $6.5 million in prizes by pushing the limits of unmanned flight. Visitors can observe cutting-edge aircraft demonstrations and experience aviation innovation in action. Dayton Contemporary Dance Company invites the community to a free block party event at their studios located on the Central State University Dayton Campus. With face painting, a bounce house, carnival games, line dancing, and more for children this is fun for all ages and just in time for the final moments of summer fun before school starts. To help with back to school preparations, DCDC is giving away book bags filled with school supplies for elementary and middle school children. Supplies are limited. Step inside the studios, see mini performances by the company, dance a line dance, grab great food, and do a little shopping with local vendors. This block party is DCDC's gift to the community. WOW 2026: Walk Out Weakness • Walk Into Freedom Join R House Ministries for WOW 2026, a citywide walk celebrating healing, recovery, restoration, and the hope found in Jesus Christ. Together, we will gather at 107 White Allen Ave., Dayton, Ohio, before walking through beautiful downtown Dayton and Riverscape Park, believing that freedom is possible, lives can be restored, and every woman deserves to know her God-given value, dignity, and purpose. As we walk, we stand together against addiction, homelessness, exploitation, domestic violence, poverty, and hopelessness while boldly declaring that healing and restoration are possible through the love of Jesus, compassionate community, and faithful support. This annual event raises awareness and critical funding for R House Ministries, helping us serve thousands of women each year through outreach, resources, recovery support, discipleship, and practical assistance. Quilts are America’s great art experiment: monumental compositions in color, pattern, geometry and representation, and traditionally, quilts are made mostly by women. The American Folk Art Museum has been at the forefront of the movement to bring recognition to quilts as a major art form with deep roots in American life and experience. Their collection is distinctive for highly individualized expressions in this medium that is both yielding and unforgiving, challenging the maker to test the limits imposed by cutting and piecing bits of fabric. The quilts on view range from the mid-nineteenth to late twentieth centuries, from Alabama to Pennsylvania.
